RMNP XIII

It was a beautiful day on the west side of the park. I got excited when I came through the entrance and the ranger told me they had spotted a mother moose and twin calves this morning down by the Colorado River Trailhead. I went there several times during the day but never saw them.

The top image I liked because of the way the wind shaped the snow, the shadows and the way the snow sparkled from the sun. The rest of the images are the Never Summer Range. My favorite name for a mountain range.

RMNP XII

I decided to go to the West side of RMNP this time. It was snowing the entire time so I didn't get to see any peaks, but still enjoyed it. It was single digit temperature but no wind so it wasn't bad at all.

Top photo - this reminded me of Dr. Zhivago. Middle photo - the river outlined in the lower left is the Colorado. Bottom photo - park was pretty crowded. Not often you can take a photo directly into the sun and not burn out an eyeball.

Garden of The Gods (again)

It was just a gorgeous day at Garden of the Gods. I didn't even have my gloves or coat on all the time I was there. The snow made for some nice contrast in the shots. I hadn't been here in a while and I forgot how awesome it is.

RMNP XI

There wasn't as much snow at the lower elevations as I thought there would be. For about 50% of the time it was a beautiful day - sunny, about 25 degrees. The other 50% the wind was blowing so hard I had tears in my eyes. The best thing about the day was that I saw more elk than people.

Speaking of elk, I was lining up a beautiful shot of a male with a great rack who was lying in the snow looking right at me. I was just about to press the shutter and I heard a car drive up behind me, the door slam, and some guy shout "Wow! Look at all them !@#$%^& DEER!". Surprise - he had a CA license plate. The next I saw of the elk was his butt disappearing into the trees.

The top photo is looking west from Horseshoe Park. The bottom two are from the same area just as the sun was going down.
